Printing Paper Catalogue

One of the biggest customers for handmade paper in the 18th & early 19th C.was the printing industry producing books & newspapers. However as the output from paper machines grew from 1830 onwards the cost of paper fell & the use of handmade paper was restricted to the fine print & limited edition market. This holds true today. We recommend the letterpress & silk screen methods for printing as these techniques can accommodate the variations in surface texture that are present in any handmade paper.

Most papers can be hand fed through a photocopier if they have been acclimatised before hand . Please note that almost invisible felt hairs are usually present on the surface of handmade paper & these can clog the ink nozzles in a computer printer. We would therefore not advise this method of printing although it can be done.
Every paper is made in several weights and can be handled easily when damp.

Please note the colours of the papers are a general guide only. It has been difficult to show the subtle variations in the white papers particularly.

An economical way of purchasing proofing sheets is to order a roll of seconds in the papers you require by using the order form.
